Your profession should be something you enjoy and are enthusiastic about, even if it is a cliché. As the adage goes, if you discover a job you love and would do without being paid, you will not work even a single day in your life. It could seem a stretch, especially because so many uncontrollable factors might turn your dream job into a nightmare.

The purpose drives you to strive hard and be the most excellent version of yourself possible. As an educational leader, you will need the enthusiasm to assist your teachers in improving and your students succeed academically. You don’t need to mention that you are enthusiastic about anything; it will come out in your voice and behavior.

Let the Purpose be Your Guide

Let’s wrap off this leadership lesson with a story. Following a mountain-climbing tragedy that claimed the lives of five people, a reporter inquired of the guide/mountain climber why he continues to take people to the peak of the mountain despite when there is a possibility that many may perish. “You have never climbed to the summit of a mountain,” he said. He didn’t express it with a sarcastic tone or mannerism.

He argued that the excitement and thrill that comes with reaching the peak of a mountain is unlike anything else. That is why he continues to fulfill his mission despite the prospect of death. He knows he’s discovered something he enjoys and would do without being compensated.

Education leadership is similar to hiking in that it brings its own set of dangers and challenges. Once you’ve overcome them, you’ll be able to view what the summit of the mountain looks like. If being an educational leader feels like work to you, and you’re starting to wonder if it’s the right job for you, you could be working outside of your mission. If this is the case, you might think about changing careers. You may be an excellent educator without making it your goal, but you will never attain your full potential as a human being.
