Google Classroom Tip #20: Community Outreach
Have you ever heard the saying: “it takes a village to raise a child.” If not, it merely means that to help a child to grow up to be a responsible adult, all of the people in their lives need to be involved. This goes double for communities in the inner city, as many of their school-age children really could use some encouragement and positive role models.
How can teachers and administrators help accomplish? By using Google Classroom to foster community engagement. How do you achieve this? Don’t worry, we have you covered. Here is what you need to do. Create a classroom dedicated to communicating and collaborating with members of the community. Invite all members of the community to join. Offer training sessions on the use of Google Classroom and post how-to videos on the Classwork tab.
It’s not as simple as it seems, as there is a lot of heavy lifting that needs to be done to make a community engagement program a success. Remember to mobilize your entire school community in this effort, as you will need the extra help.
