Getting a Job as a Teacher in Idaho
Do you want to work as a teacher in the great state of Idaho? If that’s the case, you have come to the correct place. A short article on the processes of becoming a teacher in Idaho may be found below.
Step 1: Complete a Teacher Preparation Program that has been Approved
Educators must have at least a bachelor’s degree to teach in the United States. To acquire certification in Idaho, students must finish a state-approved teacher education program. Additionally, depending on the intended level of teaching, Idaho educators must complete the following undergraduate courses:
Elementary Education: Students must complete at least 24 semester hours in elementary education skills and subject matter, including at least 6 hours in developmental reading and 6 hours in elementary student teaching.
Secondary Education: students must complete at least 20 semester hours in edtech and secondary education professional subject matter, including 3 semester hours of reading in the targeted content area and 6 semester hours of student teaching. In addition, two secondary teaching fields must be prepared, one primary with 30 semester hours and the other secondary with 20 semester hours.
Special Education: A minimum of 30 semester hours in special education is required.
Curriculum and field experiences are the two main components of teacher education programs. Teaching basic skills, pedagogy (the science of teaching), and training students to research, design, and execute learning experiences in their field of study are all part of the curriculum. Field observations, internships, student teaching, or an amalgamation of all three are common field experiences. The State Board of Education must approve educator programs and meet Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) standards. You may find more information on the Idaho Board of Education’s Educator Preparation page.
