As a Mac user, the login screen is something that you encounter every time you boot up your computer. While the default login screen design is efficient and functional, it can be a bit boring and lack personality. Luckily, customizing the login screen on your Mac is an easy and fun way to add a personal touch to your computer. Here’s how to do it:
- Choose a new image
The first step to customizing your login screen is to choose a new image. This can be a photo of you, your family, your pet, or anything else that strikes your fancy. If you’re not sure what image to use, you can always browse a website like Unsplash or Pexels for some free and beautiful images.
- Adjust the image to fit the screen
Once you’ve chosen your image, you’ll need to adjust the size to fit your screen. The ideal size for a login screen image is 2560×1600 pixels, but you can adjust it as needed. You can use Preview, Photoshop, or any other photo editing software to make the necessary changes.
- Save the image as a PNG file
After adjusting the size, save the image as a PNG file. This will ensure that the image looks crisp and clear on your login screen. To do this, go to File > Save As, and select PNG as the file format.
- Rename the image file
The next step is to rename the image file to “com.apple.desktop.admin.png.” This is the exact name that the Mac operating system looks for when it’s looking for your login screen image. Make sure you spell the file name correctly and save it to your desktop.
- Replace the original login screen image
Now it’s time to replace the original login screen image with your new one. To do this, you’ll need to use Terminal, a built-in Mac application. Open Terminal and type in the following command: sudo mv ~/Desktop/com.apple.desktop.admin.png /Library/Caches.
- Logout and check out your new login screen
After running the command, log out of your account, and you’ll see your new custom login screen. Take a moment to enjoy your new personalized login screen. If you ever want to change the image or revert to the original login screen, simply replace the “com.apple.desktop.admin.png” file with a new image and run the Terminal command again.
