What Will the LMS of the Future Look Like?
Have you ever become frustrated with your learning management system (LMS)? If so, you are not alone. They are not as easy to use as other educational technology products; however, they are essential for the classroom. Yet, educators are hopeful that developers are already planning the LMS of the future to be more effective.
As technology evolves and education becomes future ready, the LMS of the future will become more than a helpful administrative tool. The LMS of the future will be a hands-on all-access tool for education.
More Individualized
The LMS of the future will be more individualized. No longer will schools purchase a one-size-fits-all LMS product. Instead, LMS products will be designed to be individualized to meet the needs of the individual schools. Schools and even teachers will be able to individualize the system to make their classrooms run more effectively.
Multiple Uses
Whereas the LMS of today is essentially used as a high-end administrative tool for keeping track of student information, the LMS of the future will have multiple uses across various areas. For instance, it will be used by administrators, teachers, and students. It will be used for homework help, purchasing, communication, and more.
Essential Tools
In addition to keeping track of student information, the LMS of the future will also be a tool for analysis. It will be able to collect and analyze imperative information helping educators see where students need more help. Through interconnected features, such as state standards, this analysis will prove helpful in planning.
Cloud-Like Functionality
In the future, we expect to see more cloud-like functionality with LMS. Educators should be able to store information in the cloud so they can access it at later dates and in settings outside of the classroom. Additionally, students will have access to the LMS cloud making it easy to keep track of assignments and work in groups.
Interconnected Features
As more technology becomes interconnected, we can expect the same for LMS. LMS will be used to connect to various websites, as well as connect to different software programs. For example, a student may use the LMS to buy course materials and get homework help from a video chat.
Social Capabilities
While some LMS already have social capabilities, most of these are in the form of discussion boards. In the future, LMS will have more ways for students and educators to communicate. This will include chat rooms and social media connectivity.
Content Optimization
Finally, the LMS of the future will be optimized across devices. As more individuals are using smartphones and electronic devices to access educational tools, the LMS of the future will be optimized for easy viewing and functionality from these types of devices. This will make the LMS accessible to everyone at all times.
