Ways to Stop Your Phone From Being Tracked
Nowadays, it’s almost impossible to imagine life without cell phones. They’ve become an integral part of our daily lives. However, many of us are unaware that our phones are constantly being tracked – our every move, every conversation, every search is being monitored by someone. While some may find this comforting, others are concerned about their privacy being invaded. If you’re in the latter group, here are some effective ways to stop your phone from being tracked.
- Turn off Location Services
The most significant way to stop your phone from being tracked is to turn off location services. This will stop the apps on your phone from accessing your GPS data. To turn off location services on Android, go to Settings > Location, and toggle the switch to Off. On iOS, go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services and turn off the Location Services switch.
- Use VPN
Using a virtual private network (VPN) is another effective way to stop your phone from being tracked. A VPN will encrypt your online data and hide your IP address, making it more difficult for anyone to track you. Some popular VPNs include NordVPN, ExpressVPN, and CyberGhost.
- Install an Ad Blocker
Install an ad blocker on your phone to stop advertisers from tracking your browsing history and personal data. Ad blockers prevent ads from tracking you across the web and block malicious ads from accessing your phone.
- Switch to Private Browsers
Switch to private browsers like DuckDuckGo or Tor browser that don’t track or save your browsing history, IP address or location. These private browsers have been designed to help you maintain your anonymity while surfing the internet.
- Install Anti-Tracking Apps
Install anti-tracking apps like Disconnect or AdBlock Plus on your phone to keep advertisers and other tracking services from monitoring your activity.
- Turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
Turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth when you’re not using them. Hackers can use open Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections to access information on your phone, so it’s best to turn them off when you’re not using them.
- Be Careful with Apps
Be cautious with the apps you download. Some apps are intentionally designed to collect your personal data and track your location. Always read the app’s privacy policy before downloading it and only download apps from trusted sources.
