When I was a teacher, the teacher’s lounge was a sterile, uninviting space with a copy machine and, if you were lucky, a microwave and refrigerator. This has always struck me as an inefficient use of space. Teacher lounges, in my opinion, should be motivating environments where educators can feel encouraged and valued. 1. Quotes of inspiration and encouragement. Make a spot in the teacher’s lounge for staff to display motivating and humorous quotes. You can make each one stand out by framing it beautifully (not expensive to purchase). These statements will live on for a long time, helping to boost the spirit of countless Educators.
2. Recognize and celebrate the birthdays of your employees. Make a bulletin board to commemorate your coworkers’ birthdays. Each month will have its place on the board, and you should upload images of each instructor on the month of their birthday. Every school has bakers on staff, so everyone should take turns creating or purchasing a birthday cake from the bakery. Same distinction.
3. Teacher participation. Make a simple location for educators to share their finest insights, tactics, and methodologies with their peers. This will be especially beneficial for young or inexperienced instructors who are attempting to make their way in the field. It will significantly improve their teaching, and in the end, learners will benefit.
4. Staff Appreciation. Create a bulletin board where instructors can write words praising, supporting, or congratulating one another. If a teacher is doing an outstanding job, leave a message to let them know. If a struggling instructor is making progress, leave a message urging them to keep it up. Let your principal know whether you think he or she is a great leader and a superman or superwoman. I believe in recognizing people in real-time, not 10 years from now or worse when they are dead and gone.
5. Teacher of the month. Make a bulletin board highlighting the “Teacher of the Month.” Make a document with a photo, information about why they were chosen, and words and phrases to describe them. You may even include one learner’s and one colleague’s testimonies. Laminate the document and deliver it to the teacher at the end of the month.
