Windows 10 Not Detecting Your Second Monitor? Here’s How to Fix It
There’s nothing as annoying as having to deal with technical issues, especially when it comes to setting up multiple monitors on Windows 10. For instance, if you’ve connected a second monitor to your computer and Windows 10 is not detecting it, it could be frustrating, but before you panic, there are ways you can fix it.
Here are some possible solutions that can resolve the issue of Windows 10 not detecting your second monitor:
1. Check the connections
The first thing you need to do is to ensure that the display cables, including the VGA, HDMI, or DVI, are connected correctly to the display and computer, respectively. And if you’re using a laptop, ensure that the external display is set up correctly, either through the display’s configuration panel or the Windows ‘Display Settings’ option.
2. Update graphics drivers
Outdated or corrupt graphic drivers could also be the issue; therefore, updating them can resolve the issue. To do this, open the device manager, right-click on the graphics card (Nvidia, Intel, or AMD), and choose ‘Update Driver Software’. Alternatively, you can download and install the latest drivers from the manufacturer’s website.
3. Disable Integrated Graphics
Sometimes, the graphics card’s built-in integrated graphics could conflict with the dedicated graphics card, leading to the detection issue. To fix this, you can try disabling the integrated graphics. To disable it, go to the BIOS settings and navigate to the Integrated Peripherals menu, select the dedicated graphics card, and then save changes before exiting.
4. Re-install Display Drivers
This method is a bit more time-consuming than others, but it’s worth a shot. To do this, navigate to ‘Device Manager,’ uninstall the display driver, and restart your computer. After the computer has restarted, Windows 10 should automatically install the latest display drivers.
5. Test the second monitor on a different computer
If the above methods fail to work, it’s possible that there could be an issue with the second monitor itself. To confirm this, connect the monitor to another computer and see if it’s detected. Also, check the monitor’s setting to ensure that the correct input source (such as VGA or HDMI) is selected.
