What Is Apple’s Lost Mode?
Apple’s Lost Mode is a security feature that comes with iPhones, iPads, and other Apple devices. It’s essentially a way to track a lost or stolen device, and to protect any personal information stored on it.
When a user activates Lost Mode, the device is locked with a passcode and a custom message is displayed on the lock screen. The message can include contact information, instructions for whoever finds the device, and a request for the device to be returned.
Once Lost Mode is activated, the device’s location is automatically tracked and updated on the owner’s iCloud account. This makes it easier for the owner to find the device using the Find My app on another Apple device or by logging into iCloud on a computer.
Lost Mode also has some additional security features. For example, a lost iPhone can be set to play a loud sound even if it’s on silent. This can help the owner locate the phone if it’s nearby, or deter a potential thief from keeping the phone if they hear the sound.
Lost Mode can be disabled if the device is found and returned to the owner. To do so, the owner must enter their passcode or use the iCloud account associated with the device.
