Ways to Fix High Ping on Windows 10
High ping can be very frustrating, especially when you are trying to play online games or stream videos. If you are experiencing high ping on Windows 10, there are several ways to fix it. In this article, we will discuss some of the most effective solutions that you can try.
- Check Your Internet Connection
Before you try any other solution, check your internet connection. Make sure that your router and modem are working properly and that your internet service provider (ISP) is providing you with a stable connection. You can use a speed-test website to check your internet speed and ping.
- Close Background Applications
If you have too many applications running in the background, they can use up your internet bandwidth and cause high ping. Close all unnecessary applications and processes that are using your internet connection. This should free up the bandwidth and reduce your ping.
- Disable Windows Update Delivery Optimization
Windows 10 has a feature called “Windows Update Delivery Optimization” that allows your PC to download updates from other computers on your network. This can cause high ping, especially if other computers are using your internet connection. To disable this feature, go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Advanced options > Delivery Optimization > Choose how updates are delivered, and turn off the toggle switch.
- Change Your DNS Server
Your ISP’s DNS server may be congested, leading to high ping. You can change your DNS server to a faster, more stable one. To do this, go to Network and Sharing Center > Change adapter settings > Right-click on the network you are using > Properties > Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) > Properties > Use the following DNS server addresses, and enter the DNS server address you want to use. You can find fast DNS servers online.
- Use a Wired Connection
A wired connection can provide a more stable and faster internet connection than a wireless one. If you are using a wireless connection and experiencing high ping, try switching to a wired connection.
- Disable QoS Packet Scheduler
Quality of Service (QoS) Packet Scheduler is a feature that allows your PC to prioritize certain types of network traffic over others. This can cause high ping if the prioritized traffic is using up most of your bandwidth. To disable QoS Packet Scheduler, go to Network and Sharing Center > Change adapter settings > Right-click on the network you are using > Properties > Configure > Advanced > QoS Packet Scheduler > Disabled.
- Update Your Network Drivers
Outdated or corrupted network drivers can cause high ping and other network issues. Make sure that your network drivers are up to date. You can do this by going to Device Manager > Network adapters > Right-click on your network adapter > Update driver > Automatically search for updated driver software.
