Should Parents Also Know How to Use E-Learning Platforms?
With the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the world has virtually shut down as we all quarantine until the virus stops spreading. Schools have closed, and students must now resort to online learning as their primary method of receiving an education.
However, there are a number of challenges associated with e-learning and its platforms, especially for the younger learners who aren’t completely tech-savvy yet. We’re going to discuss whether or not parents should also know how to use e-learning platforms.
What is an E-Learning Platform?
An online learning platform is, in essence, an integrated set of interactive online programs and services that allow learners and teachers to learn and teach, receive information, resources, and tools, to enhance and supplement the delivery and management of education. For the last few months, these platforms have been the norm for students and teachers around the world, and will likely continue to be for many more months.
The main problem that e-learning platforms face is that they require an internet connection and a reliable one at that. Some people do not have the luxury of an internet connection, and thus need to make other arrangements to substitute their at-home learning.
Knowing How to Use E-Learning Platforms as a Parent is Important
If you are a parent that values being involved and active in the education of your kid/s, then you will need to familiarize yourself with e-learning platforms. Trying to help your children with their homework can be difficult if you don’t know how to navigate around their e-learning system.
Ask for a tutorial from either your child or their teacher before your child even needs to use the platform. That way, you will also be able to log in and monitor your child’s progress or check when they have homework or upcoming tests.
Most e-learning platforms allow the learners to work at their own pace, so as a parent, you will also help your child avoid procrastination and putting off work and help improve their remote learning.
What Can You Do to Improve Your Child’s E-Learning Experience?
Online learning can be quite stressful for students, especially those that are still quite young. One of the first things you can do to help relieve this stress and make the home learning environment better is to create a learning space.
If you set up an area that is free of clutter, and that is quiet, then chances are your child will have an easier time concentrating and getting their work done. It would help if you also worked on a schedule that they can follow since being able to work at their own pace can make kids somewhat reluctant to work.
Try to determine when your kid’s best times to start learning are and stick to those times. You can identify these times as ‘school times’, which will also help make online learning a bit easier for your children. Having an interactive e-learning platform can help as well.
