PS4 Controller Drifting? Here’s How to Fix It
As a gamer, you know that a properly functioning controller is essential to get the best experience out of your PlayStation 4 console. Unfortunately, one of the issues that you may encounter is the PS4 controller drifting. This problem occurs when the controller’s joystick or directional stick moves without any input from the user.
The PS4 controller drifting can be frustrating, especially when it affects your gameplay. Fortunately, there are ways to fix this issue. We’ve laid out a few methods that you can try to fix your drifting controller.
Clean the Joysticks
One reason why the PS4 controller would drift is because of the accumulation of dust or debris around the controller’s joystick. This can cause the joystick to move even when you’re not touching it. To fix this, clean the joystick using a soft-bristled brush and a small amount of rubbing alcohol. Use the brush to remove any dust around the joystick and then apply the rubbing alcohol to a clean cloth and wipe the joystick. This should solve the drifting issue if it is caused by dust or debris.
Recalibrate the Controller
Another fix for the PS4 controller drifting is to recalibrate the controller. Here’s how to do this:
1.Connect the controller to the PS4 console using the USB cable.
2.Press and hold the PlayStation button until the Quick Menu appears.
3.Navigate to “Settings.”
4.Select “Devices.”
5.Select “Controllers.”
6.Select “Adjust PlayStation VR.”
7.Select “Adjust tracking lights.”
8.Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the recalibration process.
Replace the Joystick
If cleaning and recalibration didn’t fix the PS4 controller drifting issue, you may need to replace the joystick. This fix requires a bit of technical know-how, as you’ll need to disassemble the controller to replace the joystick. You can purchase replacement joystick kits online or from a tech store. If you’re uncomfortable with disassembling the controller, consider taking it to a repair shop to get the joystick replaced.
