How to Vectorize and Colorize Your Procreate Drawings With Adobe Illustrator
Procreate is a popular digital drawing app for iOS devices that allows artists to create stunning illustrations and designs. However, one of the limitations of Procreate is that it can only output raster images. If you need vector artwork for printing, branding, or web design, you’ll need to turn to a vector software like Adobe Illustrator. In this article, we’ll show you how to vectorize and colorize your Procreate drawings with Adobe Illustrator.
Step 1: Export Your Procreate Drawing
The first step is to export your Procreate drawing as a PNG file. Go to the “Share” icon in the top right corner of the canvas and select “JPEG” or “PNG” from the options. Choose a name for your file and save it to your camera roll or iCloud.
Step 2: Import Your Drawing to Adobe Illustrator
Open Adobe Illustrator on your computer and create a new document. Go to “File” and select “Place.” From there, find the PNG file you just saved and select “Place.”
Step 3: Create a Vector Tracing
With the drawing selected, go to the “Image Trace” panel. Choose a “Presets” option that best suits your drawing. Depending on the complexity of your drawing, you may need to adjust the “Threshold” slider to get a good result.
Step 4: Expand and Refine Your Vector Tracing
Once you’ve created a vector tracing, you can expand and refine it in Illustrator. From the “Object” menu, select “Expand” to convert the tracing into vector shapes. You can then adjust individual vector paths using the “Direct Selection” tool, or use the “Pathfinder” panel to combine or divide shapes.
Step 5: Add Color to Your Vector Artwork
Now that you have a vector version of your drawing, you can add color to it. Select the area you want to color using the “Direct Selection” tool. From the “Swatches” panel, choose a color you want to apply or create a new color using the “Color” panel.
