How to Use the Bookmarks Feature in Microsoft Word
Microsoft Word is among the most popular word processing applications in the world. It is an essential tool for creating documents, reports, and various other works. And when it comes to organizing lengthy documents or finding specific sections, the bookmarks feature in Microsoft Word comes in quite handy.
Bookmarks in Microsoft Word are used to mark a particular section of a document that you want to revisit later. This useful tool enables the user to jump from one bookmark to another without having to scroll through a lengthy document. Bookmarking can be very useful when the document is lengthy and you want to navigate to various areas of the document quickly.

- Inserting a Bookmark
To insert a bookmark, you first need to highlight the section of text that you want to assign to the bookmark. To highlight a section in your document, click and drag the cursor across the text. Next, select the “Insert” tab from the Ribbon menu and click on the “Bookmark” option. You can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + F5 to insert a bookmark.
In the Bookmark dialogue box that appears, type in a name for the bookmark. Make sure to use a descriptive name so that it is easy to remember. Click the “Add” button to add the bookmark. Your bookmark is now inserted, and you can remove the selection.
- Navigating to Bookmarks
To navigate to a bookmark, click on the “View” tab from the Ribbon menu and then select “Navigation Pane.” Check the “Navigation Pane” box next to the “Bookmarks” option.
A Bookmark panel will appear on the left side of the document view. It displays all the bookmarks available in the current document. Click on the bookmark name to jump to that section of the document.
- Removing a Bookmark
To remove a bookmark in your document, go to the “Insert” tab from the Ribbon menu and select “Bookmark.” In the Bookmark dialog box, select the bookmark you want to remove and click on the “Delete” button. Click “OK” to close the dialog box.
