How to Use Safari Parental Controls
Safari is a popular web browser for Apple devices like iPhones, iPads, and Mac computers. With Safari, parents can set up parental controls to protect their children from inappropriate content on the web. Here are the steps to use Safari parental controls:
Step 1: Open Preferences
On a Mac computer, open Safari and click on the Safari menu at the top left of the screen. Then click on Preferences. On an iPhone or iPad, go to Settings, then scroll down to Safari and tap on it.
Step 2: Click on the “Privacy” tab
This will take you to a new window on a Mac or a new page on an iPhone/iPad. In this window or page, click on the “Privacy” tab.
Step 3: Check the “Limit Adult Websites” box
Under the “Web content” section of the “Privacy” tab, check the box next to “Limit Adult Websites.” This will prevent your child from accessing websites that are deemed inappropriate.
Step 4: Create a password
To ensure that your child cannot turn off the parental controls, create a password by clicking on the “Change Password” button. This will require a password to turn off the controls.
Step 5: Enable “Ask to Buy”
On an iPhone or iPad, you can also enable “Ask to Buy” which requires your approval before your child can make purchases or download apps from the App Store.
To do this, go to Settings, then tap on your child’s name under “Family Sharing.” Tap on “Ask to Buy” and toggle the switch to turn it on.
Step 6: Block specific websites
If you want to prevent your child from accessing a specific website, you can add it to the list of blocked sites.
On a Mac, go back to the “Privacy” tab and click on “Manage Website Data.” Here, you can add a website to the blocked list.
On an iPhone or iPad, go to Settings, then scroll down to Safari and tap on “Content & Privacy Restrictions.” Tap on “Content Restrictions,” then “Web Content” and “Add Website” to add a site to the blocked list.
In summary, using Safari parental controls is an essential step to protect your child while browsing the web. By following these steps, you can create a safe environment for your child to explore the internet without worry.
