How to Use Preview on the Mac: Apple’s Secret Image Editor
If you’re a Mac user, you’ve probably heard of Preview, the default image viewer on macOS. But did you know that Preview is also a powerful image editor? It’s true – with Preview, you can crop, resize, annotate, and even apply filters to your photos with ease. In this article, we’ll show you how to use Preview on the Mac like a pro.
1. Open an image in Preview
To start, you’ll need an image to edit. If you already have an image saved on your Mac, you can simply double-click on it to open it in Preview. Alternatively, you can open Preview and go to File > Open to select an image from your files.
2. Crop and resize
To crop an image, simply click and drag the cursor over the area you want to keep. Once you’ve selected the area, go to Tools > Crop to crop the image. To resize an image, go to Tools > Adjust Size and enter the dimensions you want. You can also choose to resize the image by percentage or by the number of pixels.
3. Annotate
Preview also allows you to add text, shapes, and arrows to your images. To do this, go to Tools > Annotate and select the tool you want to use. Once you’ve added your annotation, you can move it around, adjust its size, and change its font and color.
4. Apply filters
Preview comes with a variety of filters that you can apply to your images to enhance their appearance. To apply a filter, go to Tools > Adjust Color and select the filter you want to use. You can choose from filters like Sepia, Noir, and Vivid.
5. Save your edited image
Once you’ve edited your image to your liking, you’ll need to save it. To do this, go to File > Save or File > Save As to save the image with a new name or file format. You can choose to save the image as a JPEG, PNG, or other image format.
And that’s it! With Preview, you can easily edit your photos without having to buy or download any additional software. It may not have all the features of a professional photo editor, but for basic editing tasks, Preview is a powerful tool that every Mac user should know how to use.
