How to Transfer Nintendo Switch Save Data From One Console to Another
If you’ve recently bought a new Nintendo Switch console and want to transfer your save data from the old one to the new one, you’ve come to the right place. Transferring data from one Switch console to another is not as complicated as it may seem. Here’s everything you need to know about transferring Nintendo Switch save data from one console to another.
- Check if your Nintendo Switch console is eligible for data transfer
Before you begin the transfer process, ensure that both the old and new consoles are updated to the latest firmware version. Not all Switch consoles are eligible for data transfer. Only the original Nintendo Switch or Switch Lite consoles are eligible. Switch Lite can only be transferred to another Switch Lite, while the original Switch can be transferred to any other model of the original Switch.
- Create a Nintendo account
Before you can transfer your data, you must create a Nintendo account. If you don’t already have one, go to the official Nintendo website and create an account. You can also create an account on your console. Go to the Nintendo eShop icon on the home screen and select “New User/Create Account.” Follow the on-screen instructions to create your account.
- Back up your save data
Before you begin the transfer process, you’ll need to back up all your save data. To do this, go to “System Settings” on the home screen, then select “Data Management.” Next, select “Save Data Cloud Backup.” Make sure your console is connected to the internet and select “Back Up Now.” Your console will automatically back up all your save data to the cloud.
- Transfer data to the new console
On your new console, go to “System Settings” and select “Users.” Select “Transfer Your User and Save Data.” Follow the on-screen instructions to transfer all your data from your old console to the new one. You’ll need to have both consoles on hand during the transfer process. Keep in mind that this process may take some time, depending on the amount of data being transferred.
- Download your games
Once the transfer process is complete, you’ll need to download all your games to your new console. Go to the Nintendo eShop on your new console and go to the “Redownload” section. All your games that were previously downloaded on your old console will be available to download on your new one.
