How to Set a Custom Ringtone on iPhone
If you’re tired of hearing the same old ringtones on your iPhone, it’s time to change things up and set a custom ringtone. Fortunately, setting a custom ringtone on an iPhone is a quick and easy process.
Step 1: Choose a song
Start by choosing a song or sound file that you want to use as your ringtone. You can use any song that you have in your music library, or you can use a downloaded sound file. Keep in mind that the song or sound file must be in the .m4r format in order to be used as a ringtone on an iPhone.
Step 2: Import the file
If the song or sound file is already in your music library, skip this step. If not, you will need to import it into iTunes on your computer. To do this, simply drag and drop the file into iTunes.
Step 3: Edit the song to the desired length
Next, you’ll need to edit the song or sound file to the desired length for your ringtone. To do this, open the song or sound file in your music library in iTunes and then select the portion of the song or sound file that you want to use as your ringtone. You can do this by clicking and dragging the selection markers on either end of the selected area.
Once you have selected the portion of the song or sound file that you want to use as your ringtone, right-click on the selection and choose “Create AAC Version” from the menu. This will create a new version of the selected portion of the song or sound file in your iTunes library.
Step 4: Convert the file to .m4r format
Next, you’ll need to convert the newly created file to the .m4r format that is required for iPhone ringtones. To do this, right-click on the newly created file and then select “Show in Finder” (Mac) or “Show in Windows Explorer” (PC).
Once the file is displayed in your file browser, you can right-click on it and then select “Rename”. Change the file extension from .m4a to .m4r, and then press “Enter” to save the changes.
Step 5: Add the file to your iPhone
Connect your iPhone to your computer with a USB cable and open iTunes. In the iTunes sidebar, select your iPhone, and then click on the “Tones” tab.
Drag and drop the newly created .m4r file into the “Tones” section of your iPhone in iTunes. The file will be added to your iPhone as a custom ringtone.
Step 6: Set the new ringtone on your iPhone
Finally, you’ll need to set the new ringtone on your iPhone. To do this, go to “Settings” on your iPhone and then select “Sounds & Haptics”. Select “Ringtone” and then find the custom ringtone that you just added in the list of available ringtones. Select the ringtone to set it as the default ringtone for your iPhone.
With these simple steps, you can easily set a custom ringtone for your iPhone and enjoy hearing your favorite sounds every time your phone rings.
