How to Play Channel Games on Discord (Including Chess and Poker)
Discord is a versatile chat platform designed for gamers, but it’s much more than just a place to chat. It’s a place to hang out and play games online with your friends. One of the coolest features of Discord is its “channel” system, which allows people to create dedicated chat rooms for certain games, topics or interests.
If you’re an avid player of games like chess and poker, you can easily set up a channel on Discord for these games and play against other people in real-time. Here’s how to get started:
Create a Channel for Your Game:
The first step is to create a channel for the game you want to play on Discord. Click on the plus icon on the left sidebar to create a new server if you don’t have one already. Once you’ve created your server, click on the plus icon next to the voice channels and select “Create Channel.” Give your channel a name and add a description, so people know what it’s for.
Choose Your Game Bot:
There are many game bots available on Discord that allow you to play games like chess and poker with other people in your channel. The most popular game bots for Discord include MEE6, Dyno, and Carl-bot. You can add any of these bots to your server by clicking on the “Bot” link in the settings and searching for the bot you want to use.
Play Chess:
To play chess on Discord, use the ChessBot. Once you’ve added the bot to your server or channel, invite other people to join the game. You can start a new game by typing “@chessbot new game,” and the bot will give you a link to the game. To move a piece, just type the algebraic notation for the move you want to make (e.g., e2-e4) and ChessBot will respond with the next move.
Play Poker:
To play poker on Discord, use the Pokécord bot. Invite other players to your channel and start a game by typing “/poker start.” The bot will deal each player two cards, and you can then place your bets by typing the amount you want to bet (e.g., “/poker bet 10”). You can also fold by typing “/poker fold” if you don’t think your hand is strong enough.
