How to Keep the Mac Dock on One Screen in a Dual Monitor Setup
If you are a Mac user with a dual monitor setup, you might have noticed that the dock, which is usually located at the bottom or side of the screen, appears on both screens. While this might be helpful in some situations, it can also be annoying and take up valuable screen space. Fortunately, there is a way to keep the dock on just one screen, and in this article, we will guide you through the steps to do that.
Step 1: Go to System Preferences
To begin with, click on the Apple icon on the top left corner of your screen and select “System Preferences” from the drop-down menu.
Step 2: Click on Displays
Once you are in System Preferences, click on “Displays” to open the display preferences.
Step 3: Select the monitor you want to keep the dock on
If you have more than one external monitor connected to your Mac, choose the one you want to keep the dock on from the list of displays shown on the screen.
Step 4: Check the “Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available” box
At the bottom of the display preferences window, there is a checkbox labeled “Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available”. Make sure this box is checked to see more display options.
Step 5: Open the AirPlay menu
After checking the “Show mirroring options” box, you will see an AirPlay icon in the menu bar at the top right corner of your screen. Click on that icon to open the AirPlay menu.
Step 6: Choose “Mirror Displays”
In the AirPlay menu, you will see several options for display. Choose the “Mirror Displays” option to make your external displays mirror each other.
Step 7: Drag the dock to the monitor of your choice
Once your displays are mirrored, the dock will appear on both screens. However, you can drag the dock to the screen you want to keep it on. Simply click and hold on the dock and drag it to the desired screen.
Step 8: Turn off mirroring
After you have moved the dock to the desired monitor and set it up, you can turn off mirroring to give you more control over the display on each screen. To do this, go back to the AirPlay menu and choose “Turn AirPlay Off”.
