How to Force the Google Play Store to Update on Android
Google Play Store is the official app store for Android smartphones and tablets, and it is the primary means for Android users to download and install new apps and games onto their devices. Keeping the Play Store up to date is important as Google often releases new features, bug fixes, and security updates, but sometimes it can take a while for the update to appear on your device. If you’re looking for a way to force the Google Play Store to update on your Android device, there are a few things you can try.
Check for Updates Manually
The most straightforward method to force the Google Play Store to update is to check for updates manually. Normally, the Play Store updates itself automatically in the background and may take several days, if not weeks, after Google releases a new version. Therefore, if you want to get the latest version right away, you should check the Play Store manually and follow these steps:
1. Open the Google Play Store on your device.
2. Tap the three horizontal lines in the top-left corner to open the menu.
3. Scroll down and select “Settings.”
4. At the bottom of the page, tap “Play Store version.”
5. The Play Store should now inform you of any available updates. If there’s a new version, tap “Update” to download and install.
Clear the Cache and Data of the Play Store
Sometimes clearing the cache of the Play Store and its data can resolve update issues. This method usually works best when the Play Store is not working correctly, or if the update progress is stuck. Here’s what you need to do:
1. Go to Settings on your device.
2. Scroll down until you find the Apps (or Application) section.
3. Tap on the Google Play Store.
4. Tap on the Storage option.
5. Click on Clear Cache and Clear Data options—clear both options.
6. Once you have cleared the cache and data, go back to the home screen and access the Play Store.
7. If the update is available, it should now appear, and you can tap it to download and install it.
Force Stop the Play Store
If the above methods do not work, you can try to force stop the Play Store and restart the app to prompt an update. Here’s what you need to do:
1. Go to the Settings app on your device.
2. Scroll down and tap on the Apps (or Application) section.
3. Find the Google Play Store and select it.
4. Tap the “Force Stop” button to stop the app from running.
5. Once the Play Store is stopped, open it again to check for an update.
