How to Factory Reset a PlayStation 4 (PS4)?
Factory resetting a PlayStation 4 (PS4) can be useful in a number of situations. Perhaps you’re experiencing performance issues or the system has become unresponsive. You could be selling your PS4 or giving it away, in which case you’ll want to make sure that all of your personal data is erased before handing it over. Whatever the reason, a factory reset returns your PS4 to its original state and wipes all data from its internal hard drive. Here’s how to perform a factory reset on a PS4.
Before you begin, make sure to back up any important data. This includes game saves, downloaded games, and any other media that you’ve stored on the PS4. You can use an external USB storage device for this purpose.
Step 1: Sign Out of Your Account
Before resetting your PS4, make sure to sign out of your account. Go to Settings > Account Management > Sign Out, and choose a user account to sign out of.
Step 2: Boot Your PS4 in Safe Mode
Turn off your PS4. Once it’s off, hold down the power button until you hear two beeps. This will boot your PS4 in Safe Mode.
Step 3: Select “Initialize PS4”
Once your PS4 is in Safe Mode, connect a controller to the console using a USB cable. When you see the Safe Mode screen, select “Initialize PS4.” This will initiate the factory reset, wiping all data from your PS4’s hard drive.
Step 4: Choose “Full” as the Reset Option
You’ll be given two options for resetting your PS4: “Quick” and “Full.” Select “Full” to perform a complete factory reset. This will erase all data, including system software and user data.
Step 5: Wait for the Reset to Complete
After selecting “Full,” your PS4 will begin the reset process. This can take up to several hours, depending on the size of your hard drive. Make sure to leave your PS4 plugged in and turned on during this time.
After the reset process is complete, your PS4 will boot up as if it were brand new. You’ll need to set up your system settings, including network settings and user accounts. You can then begin using your PS4 as if it were a fresh out-of-the-box console.
