How to Connect and Sync an Xbox 360 Controller
The Xbox 360 controller is one of the most popular gaming controllers in the world. It is widely used by gamers across the globe due to its comfortable design and ergonomic button placement. The Xbox 360 controller can be used on PCs, Xbox consoles, and Android devices. However, to use the controller on your device, you need to connect and sync it. So, let’s learn how to connect and sync an Xbox 360 controller.
Step 1: Determine the Type of Xbox 360 Controller You Have
Before connecting and syncing the Xbox 360 controller, you need to determine the type of controller you have. There are two types of Xbox 360 controllers: wired and wireless. The wired controller connects to your device using a USB cable. The wireless controller connects using a wireless adapter that you must purchase separately (or use the one included with your console). Identify which type of controller you have.
Step 2: Connect a Wired Xbox 360 Controller to Your Device
Connecting a wired Xbox 360 controller on a PC or Xbox console is an effortless task. You need a USB cable that can plug into the controller’s port. At this point, you can use the Xbox 360 controller immediately, since the connection is made through the USB cable.
Step 3: Connect a Wireless Xbox 360 Controller to Your Device
Connecting a wireless Xbox 360 controller can be a little more complicated than connecting a wired controller. To connect the wireless controller to your device, follow the steps below.
- Purchase a wireless adapter if you don’t already have one. You can purchase the official Microsoft adapter or a third-party one compatible with both Xbox and PC. You can find a wireless adapter online or in most game stores.
- Plug the adapter into one of the USB ports on your device. Ensure that the adapter is recognized and installed correctly.
- If your controller hasn’t been already synced to the wireless adapter, press the button on the side of the adapter to enter the sync mode. Hold down the sync button on your Xbox 360 controller for a few seconds until the green power light flashes. The controller should sync itself to the adapter automatically. The green light on the adapter will stop flashing, signifying that the connection has been established.
Note: You may have to repeat step c if the controller and adapter fail to sync. Disconnect the controller and adapter, then start the sync process over again.
Step 4: Sync an Xbox 360 Controller to Your Android Device
Connecting a controller to an Android device can be a bit different from connecting it to other devices. To sync an Xbox 360 controller to an Android device, follow the steps below.
- Purchase a USB OTG (On-The-Go) cable or an Android-compatible wired Xbox 360 controller. A wireless controller won’t work on Android devices since you can’t install the wireless adapter.
- Connect the USB OTG cable to your Android device. Plug the USB cable from your Xbox 360 controller into the OTG cable.
- Once connected, the Xbox 360 controller should work immediately, without any additional configuration.
