How to Change Your PSN Name
If you’ve had your PlayStation Network (PSN) account for a while, you probably chose your name when you first signed up. However, there are plenty of reasons why you may want to change your PSN name. Maybe you’re tired of the old username, maybe you want to distance yourself from a certain group, or perhaps you just want to try something new. Whatever your reason, changing your PSN name is a straightforward process that doesn’t take long.
Step 1: Check your eligibility
Unfortunately, not everyone is eligible to change their PSN name. If you’re a primary or sub-account holder, you’re in luck – you can change your name as many times as you want. However, if you’re a child account holder, your name can only be changed once every six months. Additionally, if you’ve violated the terms of service, you may not be able to change your name at all.
Step 2: Log in to your account
Once you’ve confirmed that you’re eligible to change your name, it’s time to log in to your PSN account. You can do this by opening the PlayStation website and clicking ‘Sign In’ in the top right-hand corner. Enter your email address and password, and you’ll be redirected to the main page of your account.
Step 3: Go to your Account Settings
To change your PSN name, you’ll need to access the ‘Account Information’ page. To get there, click on your profile picture in the top right-hand corner of the screen and select ‘Account Settings’. This will take you to a new page with a number of tabs. Select ‘PSN Profile’ from the list.
Step 4: Choose ‘Edit’ next to your name
On your PSN Profile page, you’ll see your current username in bold at the top. To change it, click the ‘Edit’ button next to your name.
Step 5: Create a new username
Once you’ve clicked ‘Edit’, you’ll be asked to create a new PSN name. Type it in and click ‘Continue’. You’ll see a message indicating whether the new name is available or not. If it is, select ‘Confirm’ to complete the process. If not, you’ll need to choose a different name.
Step 6: Pay the fee (if applicable)
If you’re changing your PSN name for the first time, you can do so free of charge. However, subsequent changes will cost you. The fee depends on your location, but it’s usually around $10. When you confirm your new name, you’ll be prompted to pay the fee if it applies to you. You can do so by inputting your credit or debit card details.
