How to Add a Screen Saver to Your Mac
Screen savers are an excellent way to protect your Mac’s screen while it’s idle. Not only do they prevent burnt-in images, but they can also add a personal touch to your computer. So if you’re wondering how to add a screen saver to your Mac, keep reading.
Step 1: Open System Preferences
The first thing you need to do is open “System Preferences” on your Mac. You can do this by clicking the Apple icon in the top-left corner of your screen and selecting “System Preferences” from the dropdown menu.
Step 2: Select Desktop & Screen Saver
Once you’re in System Preferences, you’ll see a list of icons. Look for “Desktop & Screen Saver” and click on it.
Step 3: Choose a Screen Saver
In the “Desktop & Screen Saver” window, you’ll see two tabs: “Desktop” and “Screen Saver.” Click on the “Screen Saver” tab, and you’ll see a list of pre-installed screen savers on your Mac.
If you want to use one of these screen savers, click on it to preview it. If you like it, click on the “Start after” dropdown menu to select how long your Mac should be idle before the screen saver starts.
Step 4: Download a Screen Saver
If you don’t want to use one of the pre-installed screen savers, don’t worry. You can download additional screen savers online. Here are a few websites where you can find some:

Once you’ve found a screen saver you like, download it and save it to your Mac’s “Downloads” folder.
Step 5: Install the Screen Saver
To install the screen saver, open the “Downloads” folder and double-click the screen saver file. This will open a window with a preview of the screen saver. Click the “Install” button to install it on your Mac.
Step 6: Set the Screen Saver as Your Mac’s Default
Once the screen saver is installed, go back to “System Preferences” and click on the “Screen Saver” tab again. You should now see the new screen saver listed. Click on it to preview it, and if you’re happy with it, click on the “Start after” dropdown menu to select how long your Mac should be idle before the screen saver starts.
Finally, click on the “Screen Saver Options” button to adjust any settings for the screen saver. Once you’ve made all the changes you want, click “OK” to save your settings.
Congratulations! You’ve successfully added a screen saver to your Mac. Now, every time your computer is idle, the screen saver you chose will appear.
