How to Add a Glow Effect to Your Image in Photoshop
Adding a glowing effect to your image can add a unique touch and draw attention to certain elements. This effect can be useful for art projects, social media posts, or even creating promotional materials. If you’re using Photoshop, adding a glow effect is a fairly simple process. Here’s how to do it:
Step 1: Duplicate your image layer
Before adding a glow effect to your image, it’s always a good idea to duplicate your layer. This ensures that you have a backup in case you make a mistake or want to start over. To do this, select your image layer in the Layers panel and press Ctrl/Command + J.
Step 2: Create a new layer
Next, create a new layer by clicking on the New Layer icon at the bottom of the Layers panel. This will be the layer where you’ll add the glow effect.
Step 3: Select the Brush tool
In the Tools panel, select the Brush tool.
Step 4: Choose a color
Choose the color you want your glow to be. This can be any color, but keep in mind that brighter colors will create a more intense glow.
Step 5: Paint over the areas you want to glow
Using the Brush tool, paint over the areas of your image where you want the glow effect to appear. You can adjust the size of your brush by pressing the left or right brackets on your keyboard.
Step 6: Add Gaussian Blur
Select your new layer, go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur. This will soften the edges of the painted area, creating a more realistic glow. Adjust the radius until you’re happy with the amount of blur.
Step 7: Change blend mode
In the Layers panel, change the blend mode of your new layer to Screen. This will create a brighter, more intense glow.
Step 8: Adjust opacity
If you want your glow to be more subtle, lower the opacity of your new layer. You can do this by adjusting the Opacity slider in the Layers panel.
Step 9: Save your image
Once you’re happy with your glowing effect, save your image by going to File > Save As.
Congratulations, you’ve just added a beautiful glow effect to your image! With a little practice and experimentation, you can create glowing effects that are truly unique and eye-catching
