How to Access and Use Internet Recovery on Mac
As a Mac user, you may sometimes experience performance issues or critical errors that prevent your computer from starting up normally. In these scenarios, it’s important to know how to access and use Internet Recovery to restore your system to working order. Internet Recovery is a feature available on newer Mac models which allows you to reinstall macOS or repair your disk using a network connection, without having to use an external bootable drive.
Here’s how to access and use Internet Recovery on your Mac:
Step 1: Restart your Mac
Make sure your Mac is connected to the internet and then restart it. As it starts up, hold down Command + Option + R until you see the Apple logo appear on the screen. This should kickstart Internet Recovery.
Step 2: Wait for the Utilities Window to Appear
As your Mac starts up in Internet Recovery mode, it will display a progress bar indicating that it is downloading the necessary recovery tools. This may take a few minutes, depending on your internet connection speed. Once the download is complete, the Utilities window will appear.
Step 3: Choose an Option
In the Utilities window, you will see four options: Restore from Time Machine Backup, Reinstall macOS, Get Help Online, and Disk Utility. Choose the option that best suits your needs:
– If you have a Time Machine backup and wish to restore your system using it, select Restore from Time Machine Backup.
– If you need to reinstall macOS to repair your system, select Reinstall macOS.
– If you need to access online resources for help, select Get Help Online.
– If you need to repair your disk or erase your data, select Disk Utility.
Step 4: Follow the Instructions
After choosing your desired option, follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process. For example, if you chose Reinstall macOS, you will be prompted to choose a disk to install the operating system on, and to agree to the terms and conditions. Once you have completed all the steps, your Mac will restart and you will be able to use it normally.
