How Remote Learning Is Taking A Toll On Teachers
Most teachers are not prepared for this teaching method, which is why they do not have strategies in place. This is showing in the negative feedback that is coming in from students and their parents.
Teachers are working very hard to get all the right strategies in place while learning on-the-go themselves. Remote learning is not a new thing, but traditional education methods were the preferred teaching method until now.
Interaction Was Key
Many teachers say that with interaction with students in the classroom, they developed a different set of skills to use in the teaching process. While they could see the students’ faces, they could take action according to expressions on their faces and know where to go from there.
For instance, if the student had a panicked expression, they knew the student had little or no knowledge about the subject. Now that they do not see facial expressions so clearly, new skills need to be developed to determine knowledge level. This example is only one of the many problems teachers face now that they can not use traditional teaching methods.
Digital Tools
Many teachers out there do not even know how to take advantage of the digital tools at their disposal. That is simply because they do not know how to use these tools themselves, so they are on a steep learning curve.
To use such tools as Google Classroom, they still need to learn how to operate it before using it as a teaching tool. Another problem is that there are so many new digital tools that they can use that deciding which one to use also becomes a problem.
There is no set of rules at their disposal to help them in this decision-making process; the one they choose may not be popular. A lot of research is needed before they can even determine which tool will be sufficient to use for the students.
Not All Have Equal Access
Another challenge teachers face is that not all students have access to remote learning facilities and devices. Many of those students are the ones who need personalized attention from their teachers to help them progress in their classes.
Even though there is a myriad of new technology and digital tools available for teachers, how do they bring it to all students? Channel 3 launched a survey and found that there is still a lot to be done before everyone has access to remote teaching.
The educational departments need to start working together to set standards that will benefit students and teachers. See the following video on how teachers are struggling to get ready for the new year of teaching.
Concluding Thoughts
Looking at the information above, it is clear that teachers are going through a hard time being ready for remote teaching. Many teachers still have problems providing access to all of their students, so the struggle and the stress are only beginning. Where will it end?
