How Audiovisual Equipment Boosts Remote Learning
Teachers are always looking for ways to boost learning for their students. One way is through audiovisual equipment, but how does audiovisual (AV) equipment boost remote learning?
What Is Audiovisual?
AV is electronic media that has both a visual and a sound component. AVs include things such as films, slide-tape presentations, television programs, live theater productions, and corporate conferencing.
Audiovisual service providers offer things such as video conferencing, web streaming, and live broadcast services.
Education programs often use computer-based audiovisual equipment. Many universities and schools are using interactive whiteboard technology and projection equipment.
Why is Audiovisual So Important?
AV uses lighting equipment and sound to heighten the awareness or the hearing and sight of your audience. This makes it easier for them to recall and remember the information later.
Audiovisual in the Classroom
Audiovisual technology allows students and teachers to connect more effectively. Students are used to using technology daily. Therefore, AV makes learning more engaging for them. These are two reasons that AV is flying off the shelves.
You see, teachers need every advantage they can get to ensure they’re reaching their students with the most significant impact possible. AV goes a long way toward helping them to make this happen.
There are a number of AV technologies. Interactive projectors and displays are an example of an AV technology. When lessons are interactive, students tend to stay engaged throughout the lesson. Recently, there have been improvements to interactive projectors and displays. They have been made with touch technology, allowing multiple applications and gestures. Interactive displays aren’t affected by shadows as interactive projectors are, so they are favored. Interactive displays also don’t contain lamps like projectors do that must be replaced regularly.
Content Management Systems are another example of an AV technology. Also known as a CMS, a teacher uses a Content Management System to track grades, calendars, assignments, and notes about the students throughout the school year.
Another example of AV technology would be devices and applications that let students and teachers collaborate. Schools are allowing students to bring their own devices to school. A few classes, art, in particular, rely heavily on the devices that the students bring in. The applications allow the students’ devices to be linked to a shared network so that teachers can track several students simultaneously, display their students’ work on screens in front of the classroom, allow students to collaborate so that they can accomplish goals in the lesson, and more.
Document Cameras would be another good example. Upgraded from overhead projectors, document cameras do several things. Besides displaying the enlarged text, they also display movies, images, and audio.
Another would be audio and video conferencing. Not only does video and audio conferencing allow students to join their classroom from anywhere in the world, but it will enable the teacher to bring experts into the classroom from anywhere for special lessons.
The last example I’m going to give is lecture capture and streaming applications—K-12 schools are now using distance education technology. Lecture capture and streaming applications allow teachers to deliver complete video lessons to anywhere in the world and from anywhere at any time.
As you can see, AV technologies are essential in the classroom, and their help to educators is phenomenal.
How Does Audiovisual Boost Learning?
By using AV in the classroom, teachers can easily create an interactive and stimulating learning environment. At the same time, AV also allows teachers to enhance their lessons by giving them the tools they need to do so. Thus AV is one of the many ways teachers can help their students get higher grades. With all of these extra tools, there is less absenteeism among teachers due to jaw and vocal problems, and when students enjoy all of these benefits, they are typically better behaved. Thus, audiovisual boosts learning!
