Google Classroom Tip #29: Boost Literacy Skills
Are you looking to boost the reading skills of your students? If so, this posts is for you. In today’s tip, we are going to discuss how you can use Google Classroom to increase the literacy skills of your students.
- Online Reading Tracker – Create an online reading tracker using Forms or Sheets. The tracker can be set up to automatically tally how many books a student has read or AR points.
- Reader’s Theater – Have students record a video of an oral presentation or dramatization of text and submit it to Classroom.
- Reading Comprehension Lessons – Use Google Docs and Google Forms for reading comprehension lessons.
- Reading Fluency – Check reading fluency with third-party apps and extensions which integrate with Classroom.
- Reading Response Journals – Have students create reading response journals after reading literature or informational texts.
- Travelogues – Have students record their virtual visits to countries wherein a novel they are reading is set, a language they are studying originates, or a historical event has occurred. Travelogues can be created in various formats including a travel journal in Docs, a Slides presentation, or a video and uploaded to Classroom.
