A Step-by-Step Guide to Setting Up Your AirTags
With the release of Apple’s AirTags, locating your lost items has become easier and more efficient than ever before. These small, disc-shaped devices use Bluetooth and the Find My app to track and locate your belongings, like keys, wallets, and bags. If you’ve just received your AirTags and are wondering how to set them up, follow this step-by-step guide.
Step 1: Ensure that you have the latest software
Before you begin setting up your AirTags, ensure that your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch software is updated to the latest version. You can check this by going to Settings > General > Software Update.
Step 2: Enable Bluetooth and Location Services
Make sure that your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch’s Bluetooth and Location Services are enabled. You can turn these on by going to Settings > Privacy > Location Services and Settings > Bluetooth.
Step 3: Open the Find My app
The Find My app is the primary app that you will use to locate your AirTags. Open the app and tap “Add” in the top right corner of the screen.
Step 4: Add your AirTag
If you’ve already attached your AirTag to an item, hold it close to your iPhone or iPad and tap “Continue”. If your AirTag is still in its packaging, remove the plastic and pull out the tab to activate it. Hold it close to your iPhone or iPad and tap “Connect”.
Step 5: Name your AirTag
After your AirTag has been successfully added to the Find My app, you should give it a name. You can choose from pre-set names like “Keys” or “Bag”, or create a custom name.
Step 6: Assign your AirTag to an item
To make it easier to locate the lost item, you can assign your AirTag to a specific item. For example, if it’s attached to your keys, you can assign it to “Keys”. If it’s attached to your bag, you can assign it to “Bag”. This will also help you identify which item is lost when tracking them in the Find My app.
Step 7: Register with your Apple ID
After you’ve named your AirTag and assigned it to an item, you’ll need to register it with your Apple ID. If you’ve already registered your Apple ID on your device, you’ll be able to do this easily. If not, you’ll need to log in or create a new Apple ID.
Step 8: Add more AirTags
If you have more than one AirTag to set up, simply follow steps 3 to 7 again for each one.
