Since it burst on the scene decades ago, edtech has been helping teachers provide their students with a quality educational experience. I am not saying that it is a panacea, but it is a powerful tool, that can be used to increase a student’s academic performance. In this article, we will discuss 7 ways that digital age teachers use edtech to boost student achievement.

1. Digital age teachers gamify the classroom. Teachers in the digital age use gamification and game-based learning principles to boost student engagement and ultimately, help their students succeed academically.
2. Digital age teachers use a variety of apps. Why stick to just one or two apps when so many exist that can enhance their teaching? Teachers will use different apps depending on their subject and the age of their students.
3. Digital age teachers are skilled in digital assessment. There are plenty of assessment apps out there, but tech-savvy teachers know exactly which of these apps best meet their learning objectives.
4. Digital age teachers use edtech to publish and present student work. Instead of creating a presentation that no one outside the classroom will see, digital age teachers have students to use the internet to publish their work for the entire world to see.
5. Digital age teachers use virtual reality responsibly. Virtual reality is a powerful tool which can help students experience things that may not be possible in a traditional classroom because of budget/time constraints and helps to engage students in the learning process. However, digital age teachers use this technology responsibly and watch out for the possible side effects of virtual reality, for instance, virtual reality sickness.
6. Digital age teachers use artificial intelligence as a teacher’s assistant. A teacher can only be at one place at one time, which leaves many students and tasks stuck waiting in the queue. Digital age teachers use artificial intelligence as an extension of themselves, using it tutor students, grade papers, perform learning diagnostics, communicate, and even accelerate learning for gifted students.
7. Digital age teachers allow smartphones in their classrooms. There is a growing movement towards banning cell phones from the classroom, because of fears of academic dishonesty and potential distractions. However, digital age teachers find a way to mitigate these issues and welcome cellphones into their classroom. They know that cell phones can be powerful educational tools when used properly.
